Zentyal, developer of server technology natively interoperable with Microsoft® server products, announced today the launch of the Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Commercial Zentyal Server Editions (version 3.2). This Service Pack offers improved compatibility with Microsoft® Exchange Server, making it increasingly easy to migrate seamlessly from existing Microsoft® environments to Zentyal without causing any downtime or change for the users.

The Service Pack 2 features support for Autodiscover and ActiveSync®, together with a new webmail UI. Thanks to the Autodiscover support, Microsoft Outlook® users are are able to configure their desktop clients with minimal input, simply by inserting their email address and password. By adding support for ActiveSync® – through integration of the Z-Push and SOGo Active Sync – users are also able to synchronize email on their mobile devices. And the new webmail user interface offers users modern, AJAX-based webmail, similar to other mainstream webmail services like the ones offered by Microsoft Outlook®, Gmail™, Yahoo® and others.

Many well-loved and extensively used Exchange products are reaching end of their extended support in 2014. Technological independence, higher efficiency and lower costs are some of the main reasons businesses mention when they search for alternatives to the solutions offered by Microsoft” said Ignacio Correas, CEO of Zentyal. “However, costly migrations and impact on end users are out of the question and this is just what Zentyal helps to avoid“.

Zentyal is the only vendor worldwide that uses the native Microsoft® protocols, both for groupware (Microsoft® Exchange MAPI) and directory management (Microsoft Active Directory®) in its server products. This makes Zentyal the second company – besides Microsoft ®– to offer solutions that implement these protocols that currently form the very core of any business IT infrastructure. Thanks to this native compatibility, Zentyal can be transparently introduced to an existing Microsoft® environment, where it can seamlessly integrate with and gradually replace the existing servers.
