   Ubuntu users, don’t follow that tutorial as it:

   – don’t give root a password! Everythings that is done in that tutorial can be achieved using sudo. Giving root a password may raise security issues and makes it easier to break your system.

   – don’t install synaptic: it is not needed and adds extra packages to your ubuntu install. Just use “sudo apt-get”, or better, the software center
