Zentyal, developer of server technology natively interoperable with Microsoft® server products, today announced a major new commercial version of the Zentyal Server. Zentyal Server 4.0 aims at offering companies and organizations a Linux based Server that can be set up in less than 30 minutes and is both easy-to-use and affordable.

The Zentyal 4.0 release focuses on providing an improved and stable server edition with native Microsoft® Exchange protocol implementation and Active Directory interoperability, with the goal of providing a complete and easy-to-use Small Business Server, with native support for mixed IT environments that include Windows®, Linux and Mac OS® clients, as well as mobile devices with ActiveSync®. Thanks to this, Zentyal server 4.0 offers full native Microsoft® Outlook Compatibility without plugins or connectors.

Besides focusing primarily on mail and mail-related directory features, additional improvements have also taken place. An important effort has been put into establishing the necessary quality assurance processes and to offer existing customers a migration path from Commercial Zentyal Server 3.2 Editions to 4.0 Edition.

Zentyal Server 4.0: Technical features (commercial edition)

Zentyal Server 4.0 is based on the latest Ubuntu LTS distribution (Ubuntu 14.04). It offers the following new mail and mail-related directory features, including:

  • Provisioning of Zentyal as first Microsoft® Exchange Server
  • PST-file import
  • Support for RPC over HTTP (Microsoft Outlook® Anywhere)
  • Autodiscover service
  • Support for Microsoft Outlook® 2013
  • Support for shared calendars & contacts
  • Multi-language support for mailboxes
  • Out of office-message support

Full list of Zentyal 4.0 features can be found on the www.zentyal.com website.

In addition, a number of modules have been removed in order to focus on providing native support for mixed IT environments. The dropped modules are: IPS, UPS management, Backup, Monitor, RADIUS, Webserver, Roudcube Webmail (replaced by SOGo Webmail) and IPsec (replaced by a new module supporting only L2TP). All these modules will continue being supported in the current Commercial Zentyal Server versions until the end of life of each version. Moreover, partners and customers are provided documentation and support where these features are required with manual configuration with other open source alternatives.

Upgrading

Migration of existing customers with Zentyal Server 3.2 SP2 to 4.0 will be supported at no extra cost. Customers wishing to upgrade can contact the Zentyal Support Engineers thorough the Support Platform.
